Why Ross Noble should visit this place?

In 2007 comedian Ross Noble put the word out on his website that he was going to be travelling across Australia and was looking for people to write in and tell him what he should see or do, and even to invite him to drop by.

example of Ross Nobles work: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtVG0BxsJpk

This was my pitch at getting Ross to come visit my singing group.

Why Ross Noble should visit this place?
The Mia Mia Harmonic throat singing group, at Mia Mia Gallery/Cafe in Westerfolds park Templestowe Vic.

"Otherworldy, angelic, demonic, ambient, lost for words and what the f@ck was that". These are just a few of the typical reactions to the harmonic throat singing practiced at Mia Mia gallery. The lessons are taught by Dean Frenkel, who in 2006 smashed the Guinness World record for 'longest continuous vocal note' by 30 seconds on the Andrew Denton show.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQz_JPFgW0Y

Throat singing sound can be likened to a sonic-whistling-buzz-type hum straight out of the Doctor Who theme song. This sound can be achieved by creating a base note (made in the throat) and then shaping the mouth to play higher-pitched harmonic notes to phenomenal results and 2 to 4 notes sung at once (no wonder they call it the 8th wonder of the world)! It's believed that it initially comes from Mongolia and there is evidence that it's at least 14 thousand years old, so it may be the oldest form of singing known to man. But there are about 20 cultures around the world that practice it, including the half dozen blokes and sheilas that practice the ancient singing at Mia Mia gallery in Templestowe.

This singing group is quite the motely crue as well (not the band). You have the world record holder, plus an 82 year old yoga teacher, a 24 year old lad you works at the strippers, a tradey, a scientist, a lady primary school teacher and a labradoodle.

To top it off, it couldn't be set in a more picturesque native environment than at the mia mia aboriginal art gallery overlooking the majesticly green panoramic bushlands of Westerfolds park complete with kangaroos all over the shop.

So why should Ross come? Let’s recap:
-otherworldly singing of multiple notes in one voice, which the majority of the popular culture has never heard anything like (big call but true),
-picturesque Aussie setting overlooking a panoramic bushlands park with roos,
-motely crew ranging from 82 year old yoga instructor to 24 year old stripper employee,
-a full interactive demonstration and lesson for Ross,
-labradoodle with a roo chasing fetish,
- tea and biscuits.

We would really love to hear back from you. I think this would be ideal for the fizzy logic tour as this is basically fizzy singing.
Cheers,
Natetron

(im sure to some of you this will stir up a number of questions. be rested assured, these shall all be answered in due posts to come)

Anima mundi

...

i loves me these stories.

NAIROBI (AFP) - A baby hippopotamus that survived the
tsunami waves on the Kenyan coast, has formed a strong
bond with a giant male century-old tortoise in an animal
facility in the port city of Mombasa , officials said.

The hippopotamus, nicknamed Owen and weighing about
300 kilograms (650 pounds), was swept down Sabaki
River into the Indian Ocean , then forced back to shore
when tsunami waves struck the Kenyan coast on
December 26, before wildlife rangers rescued him.

'It is incredible. A-less-than-a-year-old hippo has adopted a
male tortoise, about a century old, and the tortoise seems to
be very happy with being a 'mother',' ecologist Paula Kahumbu,?
who is in charge of Lafarge Park , told AFP.

'After it was swept away and lost its mother, the hippo was traumatized.
It had to look for something to be a surrogate mother.
Fortunately, it landed on the tortoise and established a strong bond.

They swim, eat and sleep together,' the ecologist added.

'The hippo follows the tortoise exactly the way it followed its mother.
If somebody approaches the tortoise, the hippo becomes aggressive,
as if protecting its biological mother,' Kahumbu added.

'The hippo is a young baby, he was left at a very tender age and
by nature, hippos are social animals that like to stay with their
mothers for four years,' he explained.

poemAday

In June 2006 i thought it would interesting to write a poem a day for a month and publish them online as they were formed. With no previous poeming pieces to draw from, i was curious as to what words might volunteer themselves from my thought stable to prance a pretty pattern of print upon the page. Each poem was pretty much written at around midnight in one sitting, with maybe a couple words scribbled down from that day at work, acting as sparks.

these are some of those from up there and back then.

"elect your purchases"
surVey coin slots,
in search Of change,
vote the rescue parTy out,
dim their spotlight on cEnter stage,
chOose wisely your seat,
on this tRain of thought,
receipt of conceit sees to it,
you will pay for all you bought,
now where do you stanD?
considerate of those who vIew from behind?,
or contention aligned, with gossip sEcond hand?,
tearful headlines excite worryline wrinkles,
but in the eye of the shareholders,
dollar $igns do twinkle.
11 Jun 2006
"unfinite"
sound the brown note out,
bound, tied down devote devout,
eyes confined, the screen's the limit,
sighs enshrined, no machine can transmit it,
one lonely lone wolf strays from the pack,
spun, only prone to proof theres no way back,
crushed is the hand that points the finger,
gush of drawn in breath anoints, tho unease will linger
fulll moon florishes, but not yet in colour,
howl ing appropriate, crying out to our surrogate mother.

"enlicensed"
Opening doors, on the clock,
doesn't hold up, when out of breath,
pull over, catch a courtesy wave in,
guide a breakdown birth from death.

Let the urgent blood driver overtake,
meticulous presupposing sidetracked in wait,
forever passed its used by date,
on the road less traveled no-one in front to tailgate.

cryptic convulsions,
enraged signlanguage,
bitchin' to the crier,
with bitter critters on the loose,
better zip-up your sugarcoat attire.

"trapped heartattackers"

(ratttttttle)
last words,
"you are all in my heart"...
caged like birds, in the right atrium,
clawing at the internal walls,
echoed screams in search of an exit,
blindly tugging at the ventricles,
rumaging thru their masters chambers,
splashing in warm puddles of red,
crying collapsed, the realisation sets in,
the only way out to crawl within the dead,
out thru the slimey tunnels the maggots bore,
after the pulsating organ music beats no more,
when the blood that goes around,
stops veinly in its tracks,
the
pale faced driver will clench at his heart, attacked,
gasping for lifes pure airborne ointment,
stumbling backward,
arriving without appointment,
shooting a deathly stare at the mirror ahead,
into his own unblinking eyes,
he wonders if hes dead,
silent flys circle above right on cue,
their offspring to unknowingly perform the internal rescue.

breathe in the breeze, eye full of light.....

Travelling and living on the road as driver/tour manager for the walk across Australia for World Peace, i was afforded a great amount of time in the most beautiful of natural settings, between Melbourne and Byron Bay.

Here are some of the recorded moments of inspiring beauty captured in photos.
enjoy :)

Who is Nate?

this video was filmed on a rather rainy melbourne day. my mother, brother, friend Frank and i were taking a stroll thru the local parkland at koonung creek. the rain snuck up on us and we were forced under shelter. it wasnt too cold a rain, so i decided i would enjoy myself a frolic in the nearby playground.

the audio is of a mr. frank muldowney, who i shared a 6 month adventure with across Australia in 2007. a truly inspiring man, who walked around 6000km across australia, but more on Frank and his mate harvey tommorow.

June sharings of past to present....

Hey folk and friends.

I realise in the past i haven't been super great at sharing/relaying news and stories to those outside of my immediate environment, so for this month im making a conscious effort.

Each day of June ill be posting something here, whether it be a photo, a story, a creation, or a one word poem. Who knows, we'll see what happens.

So visit now and again, if you're so inclined or maybe a little curious. You're most certainly welcomed.

I pretty sure anyone can comment, you dont have to be a member, so you can share your thoughts too.

good tidings on the way(ve)
