Why Ross Noble should visit this place?

In 2007 comedian Ross Noble put the word out on his website that he was going to be travelling across Australia and was looking for people to write in and tell him what he should see or do, and even to invite him to drop by.

example of Ross Nobles work: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtVG0BxsJpk

This was my pitch at getting Ross to come visit my singing group.

Why Ross Noble should visit this place?
The Mia Mia Harmonic throat singing group, at Mia Mia Gallery/Cafe in Westerfolds park Templestowe Vic.

"Otherworldy, angelic, demonic, ambient, lost for words and what the f@ck was that". These are just a few of the typical reactions to the harmonic throat singing practiced at Mia Mia gallery. The lessons are taught by Dean Frenkel, who in 2006 smashed the Guinness World record for 'longest continuous vocal note' by 30 seconds on the Andrew Denton show.

Throat singing sound can be likened to a sonic-whistling-buzz-type hum straight out of the Doctor Who theme song. This sound can be achieved by creating a base note (made in the throat) and then shaping the mouth to play higher-pitched harmonic notes to phenomenal results and 2 to 4 notes sung at once (no wonder they call it the 8th wonder of the world)! It's believed that it initially comes from Mongolia and there is evidence that it's at least 14 thousand years old, so it may be the oldest form of singing known to man. But there are about 20 cultures around the world that practice it, including the half dozen blokes and sheilas that practice the ancient singing at Mia Mia gallery in Templestowe.

This singing group is quite the motely crue as well (not the band). You have the world record holder, plus an 82 year old yoga teacher, a 24 year old lad you works at the strippers, a tradey, a scientist, a lady primary school teacher and a labradoodle.

To top it off, it couldn't be set in a more picturesque native environment than at the mia mia aboriginal art gallery overlooking the majesticly green panoramic bushlands of Westerfolds park complete with kangaroos all over the shop.

So why should Ross come? Let’s recap:
-otherworldly singing of multiple notes in one voice, which the majority of the popular culture has never heard anything like (big call but true),
-picturesque Aussie setting overlooking a panoramic bushlands park with roos,
-motely crew ranging from 82 year old yoga instructor to 24 year old stripper employee,
-a full interactive demonstration and lesson for Ross,
-labradoodle with a roo chasing fetish,
- tea and biscuits.

We would really love to hear back from you. I think this would be ideal for the fizzy logic tour as this is basically fizzy singing.
Cheers,
Natetron

(im sure to some of you this will stir up a number of questions. be rested assured, these shall all be answered in due posts to come)

Anima mundi

...

i loves me these stories.

NAIROBI (AFP) - A baby hippopotamus that survived the
tsunami waves on the Kenyan coast, has formed a strong
bond with a giant male century-old tortoise in an animal
facility in the port city of Mombasa , officials said.

The hippopotamus, nicknamed Owen and weighing about
300 kilograms (650 pounds), was swept down Sabaki
River into the Indian Ocean , then forced back to shore
when tsunami waves struck the Kenyan coast on
December 26, before wildlife rangers rescued him.

'It is incredible. A-less-than-a-year-old hippo has adopted a
male tortoise, about a century old, and the tortoise seems to
be very happy with being a 'mother',' ecologist Paula Kahumbu,?
who is in charge of Lafarge Park , told AFP.

'After it was swept away and lost its mother, the hippo was traumatized.
It had to look for something to be a surrogate mother.
Fortunately, it landed on the tortoise and established a strong bond.

They swim, eat and sleep together,' the ecologist added.

'The hippo follows the tortoise exactly the way it followed its mother.
If somebody approaches the tortoise, the hippo becomes aggressive,
as if protecting its biological mother,' Kahumbu added.

'The hippo is a young baby, he was left at a very tender age and
by nature, hippos are social animals that like to stay with their
mothers for four years,' he explained.
